    • 2. David Miller:
    • 3. Ricky Ponting:

    • 5. Mahela Jayawardene:
  • Conclusion:

A captain always needs to play the most pivotal role in the team, so he is the one who holds the responsibility for any mistakes or faults that occurs during the match. Therefore, in T20 cricket, captaincy is extremely important.

A good bowling change, a subtle field adjustment, or the man-management skills of the captain can make a significant difference in the format. This duty becomes even more critical in a high-pressure tournament like the Indian Premier League (IPL), where teams play nonstop cricket for nearly two months.

While there have been several successful captains in this league over the years, others have failed miserably. Only a few players led their cricket team in great directions and won amazing matches.

Some players who led their teams to gain success are now the worst captains in the history of IPL. Few of them are led over 25 games are included in this article; as per the winning and performance percentage, it chose who is the worst captain.

We have all heard of great captains who have led their teams to championships in the past. However, others who failed to deliver the goods with the captain’s hat are rarely mentioned. There’s also been a lot of discussion about foreign captains and whether they are more successful than their Indian counterparts.

Here are five captains who have failed terribly in the IPL:

Following are the worst players of IPL in history, and they couldn’t perform the great matches for their respective teams.

1. Kumar Sangakkara:

Kumar Sangakkara is the most inspiring Sri Lankan captain ever as he is a strategist master and has led his team into the finals of World Cup 2011. In the last two years, he led his team into the finals.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has led the team for about two years since 2009. He got a decent record across all the formats. Sangakkara won 5 out of 15 Tests, 27 out of 45 ODI’s and 112 out of 21 T20Is.

Currently, he is the worst captain of the league ever seen. The Sri Lankan was the first to join Punjab’s Kings XI. He then joined the Deccan Chargers and later led the Sunrisers Hyderabad, a new franchise in Hyderabad. However, his track record is not exactly encouraging.

2. David Miller:

He is the first whose name entered in the list without any doubt in the history of captains. The left-handed and big hitter from South Africa came in the highlight when he became the part of the King’s XI Punjab.

When team management saw his performance, they offered him to play as captain and gave him all the captain’s responsibilities for the whole season of IPL in 2016. So everyone expects that he will do his job perfectly, but his gaming performances aren’t that good; hence, he is the worst captain of the IPL history.

3. Ricky Ponting:

When the fan got to know that he is one of the worst players of IPL captains, all of his fans were shocked as his play was outstanding before he accepted the captaincy. He is the man who guided Australia, and they won two 50 world cups and other matches against great opponents.

4. Kevin Pietersen:

Kevin Pietersen, an English batsman, also makes a list due to the poor results as captain during his IPL career. He had the chance to accept the captaincy for his team for the first time in 2009, and when he played for RCB, he didn’t make the most successful games and only won two of six matches as the captain.

5. Mahela Jayawardene:

He is another Sri Lankan player who entered the worst captains list. The Sri Lankan’s reign as captain was broken up into small chunks throughout several seasons for various teams he played. In the 2011 IPL, he first played as captain for his new team, Kochi Kerala Tuskers.

But he didn’t play well and almost lost the matches; hence, his name is added to the list without any shocking opinions.

These are the Worst IPL captains who led their team. We know that IPL is a high-profile game, but some players couldn’t perform. Some captains play great, and some do not. Therefore, the above details will help you understand who is the worst captain of IPL.

Conclusion:

This article will get to know about the Worst IPL captains. Cricket is the most-watched and liked game among the youngsters and adult people. These captains played well for their respective teams but somehow won’t get famous like others.
