Bumrah Bares It All During Recent Interview After India Test Captain Rumours
“There’s no fancy stories to it [India Test captaincy],” Bumrah said during a recent interview. “There is no controversy or there’s no headlining statements that I was sacked or I was not looked after. Before [former Test captains] Rohit and Virat retired during the IPL, I had spoken to BCCI that I have discussed about my workloads going forward in a five Test-match series,” the bowler said.
Bumrah claims he turned down Test captaincy role
“I came to a conclusion that I have to be a little more smart. I called the BCCI and said I don’t want to be looked at in a leadership role because I won’t be able to give [everything in] all Test matches coming a five Test-match series,” Bumrah told Dinesh Karthik during the interview.
“So then, yes, the BCCI was looking at me at leadership. But then I had to say no,” he added.
Bumrah wants to feature in 3 Test matches vs England
“Three Test matches is what I’m looking at. Obviously that number is not decided. The rest we’ll see how things are, what is the workload, what are the scenarios going on. Three Test matches is what I can manage at this moment. And I don’t want to be in a desperate scenario,” he said during the interview.
He confesses workload management issues was a major factor behind his refusal to become Test captain:
“I cannot be dictating if I’d have been the captain that, ‘okay, I’ll only play three Test matches’. That doesn’t send a good message in the team as well. All of these things in mind, trying to give my best as a player and trying to contribute to the best of my capacity. Hopefully in the games that I play, I’ll give it my absolute best,” he added.
Bumrah Sheds Light on His Workload Management and Overall Performance at IPL 2025
Concerns raised about Bumrah’s increased workload seems to determine how teams manage his appearances in recent seasons. The star bowler has a unique set of talents every team wants to maximise; however, he has had to deal with injury issues for some time due to intense game time:
“So, it is all about workload. You don’t want to have a big spike. Then we have a weekly load and warm-ups. From here, we still have some time, we keep building it up. So, by the time the Test matches come, you’re physically ready and the spike is not too much and the body is used to bowling a lot more overs,” he said while referring to his workload management at the IPL 2025 and in potential future appearances.
Jasprit speaks on IPL 2025 with the Mumbai Indians
Many fans expected Jasprit Bumrah to take up a relaxed role during the IPL 2025 season. However, the Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer registered an above-par performance with 18 wickets in a dozen games this term. He delivered this haul with an average at 17.55 and a 6.67 economy rate. He had this to say about his IPL 2025 season:
“The body is feeling good. All good, no issues. I played an IPL, a hectic IPL. I always try my best to look after my body and do everything that is there in my power. The weather is good. It was hot in India. Now we are experiencing a different weather,” he added while referring to England’s weather condition as a likely factor in the ongoing Test series.
Bumrah’s return to MI’s bowling ranks helped his side reach the playoffs after suffering 4 losses in their opening round of fixtures. He remains cautious ahead of future commitments at international and franchise level.
