Vaibhav Sooryavanshi achieved milestones that most young cricketers can only dream about as a teenager. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter is still just 15 years old, but he has represented India at senior level. Vaibhav also won the Under-19 World Cup and ended his IPL 2026 campaign as the competition’s best batsman.

These successful campaigns involving the youngster brings well-deserved comparisons to the careers of some true greats in Indian cricket history.

Fans Already Making Virat-Vaibhav Comparisons?

Elated fans of the 15-year-old’s progress are already drawing up comparisons with legendary batter Virat Kohli.

The comparisons with Virat Kohli are becoming quite hard to ignore. Kohli was also an India Under-19 World Cup-winning captain who moved quickly into the senior setup like Vaibhav. He is retired from 2 out of 3 international formats for India and is now one of the sport’s greatest batsmen.

However, matching Kohli’s career requires far more than producing remarkable numbers as a teenager. But can Sooryavanshi really become the next Virat Kohli?

Let’s examine what the young batter must do to build a career anywhere close to Kohli’s extraordinary level.

Sooryavanshi Has an Extraordinary Career for a Youngster

Sooryavanshi’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. The 2011-born player progressed from age-group cricket to the IPL in a short period before earning his debut with India’s senior men’s team. Rajasthan Royals handed him his IPL debut in 2025 as a 14-year-old wonderkid.

IPL 2026 Campaign Made Vaibhav More Popular

Sooryavanshi’s IPL campaign deserves special attention because it was not simply a promising season from a teenager. He led the entire tournament for runs by combining batting volume with an attacking approach rarely seen at the highest level.

His 776 runs came at an average of 48.50 and Vaibhav registered 72 sixes in a single campaign to establish a remarkable record at such a young age. He also produced a century during his second campaign in India’s top-flight franchise cricket competition.

Vaibhav’s Under-19 World Cup Campaign Changed Everything

Sooryavanshi had already established himself as one of India’s most exciting young players at the 2026 Under-19 World Cup before his big-hitting IPL 2026 season.

He scored 439 runs during the tournament and finished with a superb strike rate of 169.49. India won the title for a record-extending sixth time, with Sooryavanshi playing a major role in the competition’s final.

Sooryavanshi’s performance in the final may remain one of the most memorable innings of his young career. He smashed 175 from 80 deliveries against England, including 15 fours and 15 sixes.

The innings was the highest individual score ever recorded in an Under-19 World Cup final. His hundred also helped India post 411 for nine before the team eventually defeated England by 100 runs.

Vaibhav and Virat Share Similarities

The Kohli comparison is understandable because both players made major impressions at Under-19 level before moving towards international cricket stardom.

Kohli led India to the 2008 Under-19 World Cup title before establishing himself in senior cricket. His progress from that youth tournament played a major role towards his entry into the senior India setup. Kohli’s remarkable youth career was also a major factor throughout his development as a reliable batsman at franchise and international level.

Quite Early to Compare Vaibhav to Virat

Calling Sooryavanshi the next Kohli at this stage would be premature, as Kohli’s legacy began as a teenage star before developing into senior men’s cricket.

Kohli developed into an elite international batter who eventually became India’s captain across formats after an impressive youth career. His legacy is undeniable as one of the defining players of modern cricket. Kohli is the IPL competition’s all-time leading run-scorer and has a record eight centuries in that competition alone.

Kohli’s career also includes major international achievements like the:

  • 2011 ODI World Cup,
  • the 2013 Champions Trophy, and
  • the 2024 T20 World Cup.

He accumulated 30 Test centuries before stepping away from Test cricket while establishing an extraordinary record in ODI cricket.

Sooryavanshi’s Ceiling Is Extremely High

There is no reliable way to predict whether Sooryavanshi will become the next Kohli. Cricket careers are influenced by several factors like:

  • form,
  • injuries,
  • competition,
  • technique,
  • temperament, and other factors hard to accurately forecast for a 15-year-old.

What can be said is that Vaibhav’s early record is exceptional. He has already:

  • scored a record-breaking Under-19 World Cup final hundred,
  • won the Player of the Tournament award,
  • produced a remarkable IPL season, and
  • become India’s youngest senior men’s international debutant.

Consistent performances for at least two more decades could put Vaibhav well into the conversation as one of India’s greatest-ever players.
