Former Team India cricketer Wasim Jaffer is set for a busy coaching calendar this year. The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) announced his appointment as their new Men’s senior team head coach. PCA officials decided to appoint Jaffer ahead of the domestic season scheduled to begin soon.

PCA President Confirms Jaffer’s Appointment
The PCA President Singh Mehta considered Punjab’s charge to win trophies before appointing Jaffer. The PCA chief also highlighted Jaffer’s vast expertise and experience as major reasons behind his appointment as Punjab head coach:
“Our main aim is to win the Ranji Trophy and also Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, so we unanimously decided to appoint him as the head coach. With his experience and expertise, we are confident that Jaffer will motivate the team to achieve success. He is one of the best longer format players in the country, and we did not want to miss out on the opportunity of having him on board,” Mehta said.
The PCA hopes to boost Punjab’s performances in red-ball cricket and aims to get their wishes fulfilled through Jaffer. Punjab has not had a decent campaign in red-ball cricket for some time. However, the PCA chief hopes their new coach will change all that:
“We have done reasonably well in white-ball cricket lately, but we want to be consistent in red-ball cricket and that’s why we thought of looking at Jaffer,” the PCA chair added.

Shaun Tait (Australian) was another major candidate to head the Punjab domestic cricket team. The Aussie was in conversations for some time before PCA officials decided to go all-in with Jaffer.
