LPL 2024 to Introduce New ‘Power Blast Overs’ Rule

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 will introduce a new set of ‘powerplay overs’ at each innings’ conclusion. LPL 2024 matches will include two powerplay overs throughout the season called ‘power-blast overs.’

When Will the Power Blast Overs Begin?

LPL 2024 will see its power blast overs fall within the sixteenth and seventeenth over of each innings. Every power blast session will also admit no more than four fielders outside its thirty-yard circle.

What are the LPL’s Comments Concerning Power Blast Overs?

Samantha Dodanwela (LPL Tournament Director) claims the power blast over rule aims to create more excitement in Sri Lanka’s premier cricket competition:

“We decided to bring this innovation in order to create further excitement for the league, which is growing year by year. This new introduction is sure to generate a lot of excitement among the fans, and the teams will need to strategise effectively to make the most of this period.” Samantha said.

Will the Traditional Six-Over Powerplay Remain?

The common six-over powerplay is still in effect, according to LPL 2024 rules. Teams still have a chance to score more runs at the first six overs of each innings. During this conventional powerplay, fewer fielders are allowed outside the thirty-yard circle. Fielding restrictions give batting teams a greater advantage to score more boundaries before the seventh over.   

When is the LP 2024 Season Starting?

The fifth LPL season will begin immediately two days after Team India won their first ICC T20 World Cup since 2011. The LPL 2024 season promises to bring another fantastic three weeks of T20 cricket. Some of the world’s best players will converge at venues throughout Sri Lanka to deliver premium cricket action from July 1, 2024 to July 21, 2024.

How Many League Matches Will Take Place in the LPL 2024?

Twenty (20) league matches will make up the LPL 2024 between five franchises. There will also be three playoff games and a final involving the top two sides throughout the season. Fans are in for a treat with the best cricketers LPL franchises have to offer.

Are There Any New Franchises at LPL Season 5?

The Dambulla Thunders will not make a return to LPL Season 5 after one of their co-owners was arrested by Sri Lanka Police. A new team – the Dambulla Sixers – will take their place. However, former Dambulla Thunders’ players will feature under the new name alongside players added at auction.
