The IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced Dinesh Karthik’s return to the team. A statement from the franchise’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle made this announcement to RCB’s fanbase:
“Welcome our keeper in every sense, Dinesh Karthik, back into RCB in an all new avatar. DK will be the Batting coach and Mentor of RCB Men’s team! … You can take the man out of cricket but not cricket out of the man! Shower him with all the love, 12th Man Army!” the RCB handle stated.
The RCB continue to build their staff strength ahead of a highly-anticipated IPL season. Fans will expect the T20 WC 2007 champion to bring much-needed winning mentality to a perennially-underachieving RCB side.
What Did Dinesh Say About His New Role?
Dinesh seems to be excited about the new position and made these comments shortly after RCB’s announcement:
“Coaching at a professional level is incredibly exciting for me and is something I’m truly passionate about as a new chapter in my life. Hopefully, the breadth of my experiences as a player can contribute to the development of the group and bring added value,” Karthik said.
Karthik expects to deliver much-needed improvements to the technical aspects of RCB’s game ahead of the new season. He expresses his delight at the prospect of mentoring RCB batters for IPL 2025 and beyond.
“I believe that cricket success hinges not only on technical proficiency but also on match intelligence and composure. I am eager to coach and mentor our batting group, helping them to not only refine their method but also to develop the keen match awareness needed to excel under pressure. It’s also great that I can continue my association with RCB as the franchise continues to move from strength to strength,” the new RCB mentor added.

Background
Dinesh Karthik was born in Chennai and hails from a Telugu family. His father was also a cricketer in Chennai’s youth team. Dinesh’s father Krishna had a major influence on the batter becoming a professional cricketer.
Dinesh also learned the basics of leather ball cricket from his father. Krishna Karthik couldn’t chase his dream to become a professional cricket player but made sure his son became a phenomenal sportsman. Krishna schooled Dinesh on the basics and sharpened his batting reflexes with quick bowling attacks from a young age.
FC Debut
Dinesh bagged his debut in First-class cricket for Tamil Nadu against Baroda in 2002. The skilled cricketer played as a wicketkeeper in that encounter and batted at No. 8. He could only manage 37 runs, but registered his undeniable talent as a debutant.
His second game proved to be a revelation, as Dinesh smashed home 88 runs to down Uttar Pradesh. Karthik’s heroics will save Tamil Nadu from defeat, helping the side snatch a draw with 1 wicket in hand.
International Debut
It would take 2 years from Dinesh’s First-Class debut for him to earn a cap with India’s national team. Karthik featured for the Men in Blue against England in 2004 during a One-Day International.

Karthik experienced a poor spell for some time until his form returned in the 2012/13 season. The cricketer delivered exciting performances for India during their ICC Champions Trophy campaign in 2013. He managed to score 82 runs in five games for Team India and snatched a half-century throughout that run.
