Indian batting legend Sachin ‘Master Blaster’ Tendulkar was full of praise for wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant during Day 2 of the ongoing fourth Test involving India and England. The veteran Tendulkar shared his thoughts through social media, and fans welcomed his comments with massive engagements across platforms.

Rishabh Pant delivered a strong performance after sustaining an injury on Day 1 of the Manchester Test but refused to retire due to his injuries. The wicketkeeper returned on Day 2 with a toe fracture to help his side achieve a higher runs tally with his half-century ranking as a major contribution.

Tendulkar and others praised Pant for his bravery and dedication to the Indian Test team after this performance.

How Did Rishabh Pant Sustain a Toe Fracture?

Pant got injured when he tried to perform a reverse-sweep from Chris Woakes’ delivery. His hit struck the metatarsal region of his right foot, and Pant had to leave the field of play after this incident. He was taken in a golf cart, and concern grew among analysts and fans over the seriousness of his injuries.

Some reports immediately suggested a 6-week absence for Pant; however, he shocked everyone with an appearance on the next day.

How Many Runs Did the Injured Pant Deliver to Swell India’s Runs in the Fourth Test?

Pant required painkillers and injections to resume play the next day. A standing ovation ensued around the cricket ground as India’s wicketkeeper made his way onto the pitch. Pant limped for singles and clearly risked inflicting more damage on his toe. However, he continued to bat until lunch and secured 54 runs off 75 balls.

Pant bagged 7 fours in his haul until Jofra Archer claimed his wicket. Rishabh’s knock helped extend India’s runs tally in the first innings and displayed his resilient spirit under pressure and in harsh circumstances.

Pant’s stint with the bat came after England took the scalp of Shardul Thakur. India were at 314 for 6 before their vice-captains stepped in to deliver an inspiring performance on the second day of fourth Test action.

What Did Sachin Tendulkar Say to Recognise Pant’s Individual Brilliance Against England?

The legendary Tendulkar hailed Pant for his resilience through pain. He also recognised the cricketer for his determination to see India achieve a better position before the series ends:

“Resilience is about playing through pain and rising above it. @RishabhPant17 showed tremendous character by walking back into the game with an injury and delivering a performance like that. His fifty is a powerful reminder of the grit and determination it takes to represent your country. A brave effort, and one that will be remembered for a long time. Well played, Rishabh,” the veteran said.

Tributes Pour in to Celebrate Pant’s Brave Knock

Aakash Chopra

Former Team India opener Aakash Chopra was full of praise for Rishabh’s remarkable hit while battling a toe injury. The retired cricketer hailed Pant for ‘cheating death’ and then delivering under pressure during a session on his YouTube channel:

“How do you break a man who’s defeated death? Pant’s 54 off 75 balls under immense pain was a defining moment in Test cricket,” Chopra said.

James Robson

SKY Sports

Broadcasters were not left out as they sought to celebrate Pant’s iconic performance under pressure. The broadcasting platform had this to say about the wicketkeeper’s inspiring knock:

“A display of huge heart… reminiscent of cricket’s most valiant heroes,” the broadcaster commented.

Can Cricketers Perform at the Same Level While Injured?

Some sets of players can ignore the pain from their injuries and go on to deliver remarkable performances with the bat and ball. For example, cricket greats like Graeme Smith (broken hand) and Ian Bell (fractured foot) were able to contribute significantly to their team’s success while battling injuries on the field.

However, Pant’s injury before hitting a half-century stands out, as the cricketer produced a thrilling performance in front of a global audience. Pant displaying resilience on the biggest stage is a massive positive for cricket as a sport, since it shows human abilities to overcome pain and deliver under pressure.

LSG Owner Hails Pant’s Courageous Knock

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka commended Rishabh for his resolve in delivering a half-ton with an injured too. Mr Goenka made this known through an X post that read:

“Not just talent. This is character. Salute,” his X post read shortly after Goenka witnessed Pant deliver a superb haul with an injury.
