India’s dynamic duo have added another ICC trophy to the national team’s list of international honours. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have served the interest of Indian cricket for almost two decades, leading fans to believe their retirement is imminent. Both star batters retired from T20I cricket after clinching the 2024 World Cup title, but haven’t left limited-overs cricket yet.
Fans are set to see Virat and Rohit in few more international competitions that could stretch into 2027.
Virat Kohli Set to Stay in India’s ODI Team
Kohli believes his longevity will be beneficial to Team India in forthcoming competitions. The record-breaking batter suggests his wealth of experience and other factors can help improve the squad before his retirement:
“I try to speak to these guys [younger players] as much as possible, try to share my experience, how I’ve been able to play for so long, try to step in wherever I can to help improve their games and yeah, it’s only, as they rightly say, when you leave, you want to leave the place in a better position,” he said.

The former ODI captain believes India stands every chance to dominate cricket across formats throughout the next decade:
“That’s our effort, you know, that’s what we’re striving for that when eventually we are finally done at whatever stage, we have a squad that’s ready to take on the world for the next 8-10 years, and these guys definitely have the talent to do so,” he concluded.
Rohit Sharma Comments on Retirement Plans?
Sharma made his plans clear during a recent interview as he dismissed any reports of a sudden retirement from ODI cricket. He intends to keep options open as India prepare to put up a challenge for the 2027 ODI World Cup:
“It’s very hard to say that right now, but I’m keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I’m playing,” the ODI skipper said.

Sharma expresses his satisfaction with current happenings in the team and hopes to contribute for as long as he can:
“Right now, I’m playing really, really well, and I’m enjoying everything I’m doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice. I can’t really say 2027, because it’s too far, but I’m keeping all my options open,” Sharma added.
“I don’t want to leave this team”
The veteran opening batter revealed to reporters that he will love to stay on with Team India for as long as possible:
“As long as I’m enjoying the sport, I’m enjoying playing the game, doing what I’m doing for this team, I will continue to play. It is something that really makes me happy. There are a lot of things involved, there’s so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I don’t want to leave this team,” Sharma said.
