BCCI Special Arrangement for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as His Parents Set for UK Tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) signalled their decision to support young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of international tours in 2026. India’s cricket governing body is extending a special provision to Vaibhav by allowing his parents to accompany him in preparation for the country’s upcoming UK tour.

India is set to face Ireland (2 T20Is from June 26 to 28, 2026) and England (5 T20Is from July 1 to 11, 2026) and Vaibhav made both squads. The country’s cricket board decided to offer Vaibhav special privileges that covers full costs for his parents’ travel and accommodation ahead of these high-stakes series.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia says Vaibhav’s parents have full clearance to travel with the India A squad to Sri Lanka. The 15-year-old will join India A’s preparatory camp in Sri Lanka before beginning their UK tour later this month:

“He was selected to go with the senior team from the India A team to Sri Lanka. As he is a small child, he is still a minor. Earlier, he was travelling with his contemporaries. U19 World Cup and all. Those are all his age group. A little bit one year up or down, or about the same. But when he is travelling with the men’s team, who are all adults, therefore, we deem it proper that his parents or anybody from the family can travel with him to Sri Lanka,” the BCCI official said.

BCCI to Make Request to Vaibhav’s Parents Ahead of UK Tour

The BCCI’s secretary revealed during this recent interview that Vaibhav’s parents will receive an offer to the youngster’s parents if they decide to accompany him to Ireland and England:

“Today (June 6), he got picked for the senior team. We will make a request to his parents. If they are willing to go, then they can go. In fact, his father is travelling to Sri Lanka tomorrow. That is our thing. And after that, if his parents also wish to go to England, BCCI will support that because he is a kid. So, he would need some time to assimilate with the senior boys. So, from that perspective, we are helping. This is not something we allow all parents to do. It is not that, but because he is 15 years old, he should feel comfortable, and he should take some time to adjust to the adult world,” Mr. Saikia added. 

Vaibhav International Call-Ups Coming in Fast After 2025 Shut-Out

It appears that the BCCI wanted Sooryavanshi to prove his worth before handing him a role within their international setup.  The youngster’s explosive second season in India’s premier franchise-level competition seems to be all the convincing board officials need.

Sooryavanshi is now set to represent India in not one, but three different international engagements this year. His call-up to represent the Men in Blue at the Asian Games also became public knowledge in June 2026 after a stellar batting campaign.

“He Picked Himself” – BCCI Chief Selector Confirms Vaibhav Blitz Behind His Selection

BCCI Chief Selector and former Team India player Ajit Agarkar revealed that Vaibhav made his selection inevitable with superb performances at IPL 2026. The youngster walked away as one of the IPL’s youngest-ever Orange Cap winners ever after smashing home 776 runs all season.

The BCCI senior selector claims Vaibhav literally “picked himself” after performing above par in the last two seasons:

“I think he has just picked himself, really. With his performances, he has almost forced us to pick him with how well he has played. For a young kid… I don’t need to talk about how well he is playing. And it’s not just this season. He obviously had a great start [to his IPL career] last season,” Mr. Agarkar said.

Agarkar reveals body has “high hopes” for high-flying prodigy

The BCCI top selector also says Vaibhav displays competitiveness at professional level alongside game-changing abilities:

“And to back it up for a young kid in a competition that’s as competitive and has a high-pressure environment, and how explosive he can be and a game-changer that he can be. Like everyone else who has watched T20 cricket in India, we have high hopes of him,” he concluded.
